World-Class Gold Mine | Sany Large-Tonnage Mining Trucks Settle in Bulk
Nowadays, more and more mines around the world are trying to become greener and more environmentally friendly, as people pay more attention to protecting the planet and reducing pollution. Recently, a big event happened in the mining industry: 5 large-tonnage electric wheel mining trucks (model SET150S), which were assembled locally by Sany West Africa Company, were officially delivered to Zijin Mining’s Akyem Gold Mine. These new trucks are not just ordinary vehicles—they are expected to play a big role in helping this world-class mine become greener, more efficient and more eco-friendly in the long run.
As one of the biggest gold mines in Ghana, Akyem Gold Mine is well-known in the global gold industry for its large scale and high output. It has the ability to process up to 8.5 million tons of ore every year, and on average, it produces about 10 tons of gold annually. That’s a huge amount—enough to make it one of the most important gold mines in West Africa. Looking ahead, the mine has a clear plan: it will switch from open-pit mining (which is more common now) to underground mining step by step starting in 2028, and it is expected to keep operating until 2042, which means it will continue to contribute to the global gold supply for many years. At the moment, Zijin Mining, the company that runs Akyem Gold Mine, is working hard to make all its mines smarter and greener. The large-scale introduction of Sany’s hybrid large-tonnage mining trucks this time is a key step to keep its production stable, reduce costs and build a low-carbon mine that is better for the environment.
The SET150S trucks delivered this time are special because they use advanced hybrid technology that combines diesel and electric power. This means they can use two different power sources, which makes them more flexible and efficient. Each truck is also equipped with an intelligent energy management system, which works like a “smart brain” to control energy use. Even under tough working conditions—like carrying heavy loads on rough roads in the mine—they can not only provide strong power to get the job done but also save energy effectively by recycling and optimizing the energy they use. Test data shows that these trucks can save more than 14% of fuel compared to traditional mining trucks. This is a big advantage: it not only reduces the cost of operation significantly for the mine but also cuts down carbon emissions, which is exactly what Zijin Mining needs to achieve its global goal of low-carbon and efficient mining.
At the same time, Sany West Africa Company has always stuck to the idea of “service first”, which means they care about supporting their customers even after delivering the products. To ensure the trucks run smoothly at Akyem Gold Mine, a special parts warehouse has been set up on-site. This warehouse stores enough key parts that the trucks might need, which greatly shortens the time needed to get parts when they are broken or worn out. Before, getting parts for mining trucks in remote areas could take a long time, which would stop the mine from working. But now, with this local warehouse, the maintenance team can get the parts they need quickly, which improves the working efficiency of the trucks and makes maintenance easier. This kind of support provides solid guarantee for the mine’s continuous, stable and efficient production, so the mine can keep producing gold without long delays.
In the future, Sany will continue to work hard to improve its products and promote large-tonnage electric wheel trucks like the SET150S to the global market. As more and more mines around the world want to become more energy-saving and low-carbon, these trucks will be a great help. Sany hopes to not only provide high-quality trucks for mines but also help them reduce costs, protect the environment and create more value for their customers. This delivery to Akyem Gold Mine is just the beginning—Sany plans to bring its reliable and eco-friendly mining equipment to more countries and regions, helping the global mining industry become better and greener.
