How to Match CAT Excavator Manuals by Serial Number
Find the correct model, engine and serial range before using a repair reference.
Start with the machine, not the PDF title
Before applying a CAT excavator diagram or repair reference, assemble a machine identity record. A model name painted on the counterweight is not enough to confirm the engine, controller or hydraulic arrangement.

Use a three-way matching record
- Machine: model, suffix, serial/PIN, engine, current component labels and known modifications.
- Reference: publication ID, edition, stated applicability, language and source.
- Task: the specific system and problem. A hydraulic diagram is not a disassembly procedure, and a general operation guide is not a testing specification.
If one field conflicts, stop using the reference as a source of adjustment values or part-selection authority. Ask for the correct edition rather than trying to adapt an uncertain diagram.
