Measurements need the right machine, method and operating conditions.

What this reference is for

Testing establishes measured behavior; adjustment changes a setting. They are not the same job. A reading without the test point, oil temperature, engine speed, attachment configuration and procedure revision may not be comparable with a published limit. An apparently low reading does not automatically justify turning an adjustment screw.

The inspected 320D hydraulic testing file contains 140 PDF pages and identifies the MCH configuration with C6.4 engine context on its opening page. It is separate from the 258-page hydraulic systems-operation file. The first explains test conditions and checks; the second explains normal operation. Keeping the two together gives a technician context for interpreting a result.

The 107-page 320GC example below is different again: its opening scope is the C4.4 engine. Its selected index includes cooling checks, compression, valve clearance, oil-pressure testing and the starting system. It should not be advertised as a 320GC hydraulic pressure table. For any repair, obtain the current matched procedure rather than reusing values from a different engine or machine.

  • Full machine serial number and the relevant engine/component label.
  • Procedure reference, test location, instrument identification and units.
  • Recorded operating conditions, before and after values, and observed symptoms.
  • Any adjustment made, why it was justified and the verification result.
