Hitachi Excavator Slow or Weak Hydraulics: What to Check

Useful symptom evidence before replacing a main pump or choosing a repair.

Slow movement is a symptom, not a pump diagnosis

Before ordering a pump for a slow or weak used Hitachi excavator, separate what is affected. All hydraulic movements becoming slow is different from one weak travel side, a drifting cylinder or a problem that appears only after warming up. The engine response, operating mode and recent service history help a technician decide which reference path to follow.

Observation Useful distinction
Several functions are slow Record engine behavior and shared control/supply symptoms; do not assume simultaneous actuator failures.
One function or travel side is weak Identify side, direction, load and associated noise or leakage. Local control, hydraulic and mechanical paths need separating.
Only weak when warm Record the temperature context and elapsed operating time. Heat-related leakage or control behavior needs measurement, not a video-only verdict.
Engine speed drops or a warning appears Capture the full message and engine identity. Engine load/fuel/control investigation may be needed alongside hydraulic checks.

Use the right Hitachi reference path

The EX200-5/EX220-5/EX270-5 training text separates engine tests, whole-machine tests and component tests. Its contents include travel, swing, cylinder cycles, pilot-system checks and main-pump tests. The ZX200-3 TT volume uses its own chapter references and standards. Those documents support a structured investigation; their values must not be mixed across EX-5 and ZX-3 generations.

A technician can use TO to understand the command/oil path, TT to choose matched tests, and W only when a repair decision justifies dismantling. Do not increase relief pressure, swap hoses, release brakes or disconnect a high-pressure fuel line as a trial. These actions can cause injury or conceal the original fault.

What to send to YUANJIAN

  • Full model/serial plate, hour-meter display, installed engine and pump identification.
  • A concise symptom timeline: cold/warm, mode, affected functions, load and recent work.
  • A safely filmed working video with engine sound and the relevant monitor message; no people inside the working radius.
  • Any existing technician test report, including the reference edition and test conditions. Do not repeat hazardous tests just to make a video.

EX-5 and ZX-3 references remain separate

Access, safety & five-year guidance terms

Public HTML contains original YUANJIAN explanations and selected catalogue information. Complete documents are not publicly downloadable; supply depends on availability, model/serial matching and permission. Manufacturer rights remain with their owners. YUANJIAN does not claim to be a Hitachi-authorized service center. Most references in this selection are Chinese, with an English EX-5 training text; this English/Spanish catalogue is not a translation of the complete manuals.

Guidance covers operation, maintenance questions and troubleshooting communication. It is not a five-year machine warranty and excludes free parts, consumables, freight, on-site labor and repairs. Pressure tests, electrical measurements, adjustments, lifting and disassembly require qualified technicians and the correct current service procedure. Stop operating a machine with unsafe leakage, unexpected movement, overheating or a critical warning.
