Is flat rack cheaper than RoRo for an excavator?

There is no universal winner. Flat rack cost depends on out-of-gauge dimensions, terminal handling, lashing and carrier acceptance; RoRo depends on route, machine mobility, port rules and space. Request both quotes using the same packed dimensions, ports, dates and destination charges, then choose the lower risk-adjusted landed cost.

What dimensions are needed for an excavator freight quote?

Provide measured length, width, height and weight for the base machine and every removed package, plus lifting points, center-of-gravity concerns and mobility status. Brochure dimensions are only a starting point because buckets, shoes, guards, attachments and dismantling change the transport envelope.

Who should approve the excavator loading plan?

The freight forwarder and booked carrier or terminal must approve the final transport configuration. The seller can prepare dimensions, dismantling, lifting and lashing evidence, but carrier acceptance controls the booking. Do not release the machine on an unverified verbal plan.

Should the boom and arm be removed for shipping?

Remove them only when the approved route needs a smaller envelope or safer lift. Dismantling can lower freight exposure but adds cranes, labor, hose protection, package inventory and destination reassembly. Compare the complete route, not the ocean-freight line alone.

What shipping evidence should a buyer receive?
